| Wow, it's been a while since I've been on Xanga.
I just reread my last post and it was pretty deep. I'll try to get back into those deep posts. If basic hasn't destroyed my intellectual side. Hopefully not since I want to go back to school and then on for my Masters. Although I wish I had moved back to McPherson last year when I was thinking about it. Now with the shadow of the National Guard looming over me for the next 6 years my ability to travel and move anywhere I want is hindered. But hopefully it won't be too bad.
That's all for now, peace and love. Josh

| I grew up in a non-denominational, evangelical church. It was good for where I was at the time (other factors were not good in my life however and I ended a "poser"). But now that I'm older and have been through things and met people and seen the world through different eyes I've started to see my faith differently. I've always believed in God. An omnipresent, omnipotent, spiritual being and created the world. I look at everything around me and I see his handiwork. Even when I was questioning and not living for God I still believed in him.
Now that I'm trying to define my faith I'm changing almost everything I used to think was the "Christian" thing to do. Conservative, pro-war, pro-death penalty, anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, anti this, pro that.
But Christianity is more than that. Christianity is first and foremost a relationship. Secondly, Christianity is about doing the right thing. In the last sermon I listened to from Mars Hill Bible Church and the book I'm reading now, A New Kind Of Christian by Brian McClaren, they've both talked about the parable of the good Samaritan(sp?). To recap the story, a Jewish man is walking from somewhere to Jerusalem and he gets mugged. Bad. Money, jewelry, shoes, clothes, EVERYTHING. Gone. So he's laying on the side of the road bloody and naked but moaning and groaning, soon a Pharisee comes along, think a local pastor from a local church. He sees this guy and keeps going thinking, "I'll get help when I get to town, but I'll pray for him and whatever sins he commited that caused this to happen." Next a Levite comes by, think of that guy that lives down the block from you. He crosses the road so he doesn't have to look at this guy lying there in a pool of blood.
And finally comes a Samaritan. He's riding a donkey so he has some wealth. He sees this guy and stops and helps him out. Takes him to the nearest hospital and FOOTS the bill. This guy was on his way to some important meeting but still stopped to help out someone who needed help.
That is the kind of Christian I'm trying to be. Not be legalistic and say "I didn't mug him so I'm not sinning, and I'm too busy to stop and help him out" but say "There's someone who needs my help, if I don't stop and help them I'm not showing them Christ's love and that is wrong."
So the moral of the story is, to be a good neighbor, to love God, you have to get off your ass and do something.
And listen to that sermon. It's good. On iTunes it'll be the second one down on the Mars Hill Bible Church podcast. It's entitled Serve God, Save the Planet.
I'll be writing more about my faith and post-modernism and I learn more and grow.

| Hey guys, I'm probably not going to be writing on here too much anymore. I'm going to start putting my blog on Facebook. So if you still want to find out what's going on in my life join Facebook (everybody can join now) and add me as your friend. Besides, Facebook is way sweeter than Xanga or Myspace.

| Hello everybody, I miss you guys, I can't wait to see you all agian.
First I just have to say something about my roommate. Looking back on my college life I notice something. All four years I went to Central I had awesome roommates that I got along with. In 4 years I had 7 roommates. 7. And I was friends with all of them. To varying degrees yes, but nevertheless friends. But now that I'm in Waco going through Texas State Technical College's Subsea Robotics Training Center, I get a roommate that I don't really care for. It may be partially because he's a non-Christian, but mostly because he's as ANNOYING AS HELL. He's a know-it-all but the trouble with him is that he isn't really all that smart. Sure he studies twice as much as I do but so far I've done better on tests than he has. (And yes, I have been studying, I plan to do so tomorrow for quite awhile for our test on Monday.) But this guy never shuts up, he seems to LOVE the sound of his own voice. But I'll move on to mountain biking now.
There is this park in Waco. It is called Cameron Park and it is large. Quite large. Think Central Park is to New York what Cameron Park is to Waco. But not only is it a beautiful park but it also has amazing bike trails. Miles and miles of bike trails. And they are tough. I have some pictures and I'll probably take some more pictures later. But it is nice.
I am going to go now and take a shower because I smell funny.

| I'm in Waco, TX right now. School starts in an hour. I should probably find out where the class is held. Weather pretty nice. Warmer than Kansas but not too hot. Mid-70s all week. I'll let you know more later. Y'all have a good week.
Love, Josh
